Report Cards
Report cards are published on the Genesis Parent Portal after each marking period.

Symbols used for reporting non-numeric grades:

• L - Loss of credit/Attendance

• AUD - No Credit/Audit

• INC - Incomplete

• M - Medical Excuse 

• WP - Withdrawn Passing

• WF - Withdrawn Failing

• X - Exempt

Incomplete Grades
An “INC” may be issued when a student’s extended excused absence prevents the teacher from assigning a grade. Incompletes should be resolved as soon as possible, generally within two weeks of the new marking period. If the required work is not completed within a reasonable time, the incomplete may be changed to a failing grade.

Marking Period Minimum Grades
A minimum grade of 55% is used for full-year courses during marking periods 1 and 2 only. A minimum grade of 55% is used for half-year courses during the first marking period of each semester only. This does not apply to Physical Education or Health.

Grading Scale and GPA Weights
Grade Point Average is cumulative beginning in grade 9. GPA is based on a 4.250 scale for regular courses, with an additional 0.5 weight for honors courses and an additional 1.0 weight for Advanced Placement courses.

Cedar Grove High School reports GPA by decile. Students are not individually ranked.

Final Grade Calculation
For full-year courses, each marking period grade counts as 22.5% of the final grade, and the final exam counts as 10%.
For semester courses, each marking period counts as 45% and the final exam counts as 10%

Full Year Course Calculation

To calculate a student’s final grade, multiply each Marking Period grade by .225 and the Final Exam by .10. Add the four marking periods and the final exam calculations together to determine the student’s final grade.

Marking Period 1 =   90   x   .225   =   20.250
Marking Period 2 =   80   x   .225   =   18.000
Marking Period 3 =   85   x   .225   =   19.125
Marking Period 4 =   72   x   .225   =   16.200
Final Exam          =   82   x   .100    =     8.200
                                           Total =    81.775

Semester Course Calculation
To calculate a student’s final grade, multiply each Marking Period grade by .45 and the Final Exam by .10. Add the two marking periods and the final exam calculations together to determine the student’s final grade.

Example
Marking Period 1 =   80   x   .45   =   36.0
Marking Period 2 =   78   x   .45   =   35.1
Final Exam          =   76   x   .10   =     7.6
                                           Total =    78.7

Final Exams
Final exams are an essential and required part of each course and must be taken by all students unless the student qualifies for an approved exemption. Final exams are two hours in length. Students must remain for the full exam period.

If an exam is canceled due to inclement weather or another emergency closing, the exam will be rescheduled for the next school day or another date designated by the school. The cafeteria will not be open during exam days.

A final exam may only be made up when the absence is approved by the administration. Examples of approved reasons may include a documented medical absence, death in the immediate family, school-approved activity, or approved emergency.

Senior Final Exam Exemption Policy
Final exam exemptions are intended to recognize superior academic achievement. Seniors in full-year and half-year courses may qualify for an exemption from a final exam if they meet the eligibility requirements. There are no final exam exemptions for Health classes.

Exemption lists will be submitted to building administration no later than two weeks before the examination period. Students will receive conditional notification at least one week before the examination period. Final exam exemption is a senior privilege only.

Students enrolled in Advanced Placement courses who take the corresponding AP exam will be exempt from the final exam in that AP course if they maintain a minimum average of 70 for the duration of the course.

To qualify for a senior final exam exemption, a student must meet the following criteria:

• Earn an average of 90% or higher for the duration of the course.

• Meet conduct and discipline expectations, as determined through administrative review.

The Assistant Principal will notify teachers of any students who do not qualify for an exemption due to conduct or discipline concerns.
