Proposal 2 - Bond and Tax Impact Details

TAX RELIEF PROGRAMS for seniors offered by NJ

As of June 17th, 2026, the State of NJ offers several programs to assist seniors with regard to Tax Relief.

The Senior Freeze Program reimburses eligible senior citizens and disabled persons for property tax or mobile home park site fee increases on their principal residence (main home).

Once applicants are approved, their property tax payments are “frozen” at the current amount, and they will receive a rebate if taxes increase because of a bond referendum or any other reason.

Eligibility requirements include:

• You or your spouse must be 65 or older on December 31, 2025 OR be receiving federal Social Security disability benefit payments on or before December 31, 2025.

• You have owned and lived in your home since December 31, 2022 or earlier.

• Your total annual income was:
2024 - $168,268 or less
2023 - $172,475 or less

Eligible seniors must reapply every year to be reimbursed.

The Stay NJ program offers property tax benefits to eligible homeowners aged 65 and older. It reimburses applicants for 50% of their property tax bills, up to a maximum of $13,000, with a 2025 benefit cap of $6,500.To qualify, you must have owned and lived in a home for the full 12 months of 2025 and have an income below $500,000.
