Be Registered to Vote

An up-to-date voter registration is required to vote. Voters must be registered by August 25, 2026.
If you registered for a previous election, such as a U.S presidential election or a NJ Legislature race, you do not need to take an extra step for the school bond referendum unless you changed your name or address.

  • Check your voter registration status in the state database.

  • Register online, or update your name/address by completing a voter registration form.

  • Register by mail, print and mail a paper registration form.

    • Forms are available in English and Spanish. Mail your completed form to the Essex County Commissioner of Registration, Hall of Records, 465 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd Suite 417A, Newark, NJ, 07102-9852.

    • Completed voter registration applications also can be delivered in person and deposited in the drop-off box available in the Lobby of the Administration & Records Building located at 495 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd Suite 103, Newark, NJ, 07102.

Find more details about registering to vote from the Essex County Clerk website.

Two Ways to Vote

In-Person

  • Polls will be open from 6am until 8pm on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

  • After Essex County Clerk’s Office finalizes poll locations, they will be added here.

  • If you arrive at the polls and are told that your ballot was already mailed to you, ask for a provisional ballot. This means your ballot will be considered after all in-person and mailed ballots are double-checked and processed.

By Mail

  • You can Vote By Mail in this referendum. If you have already requested a ballot to be mailed to you and if your address is the same, Essex County may send you a Vote By Mail ballot automatically before the election. Look online for information about voting by mail.

  • If you have questions or require assistance, contact the Election Office at info@clerk.essexcountynj.org

  • To request a Vote By Mail ballot, download an English or Spanish application. The county must receive that application by September 8, 2026 to mail you a ballot, or by 3 p.m. on September 14, 2026 to give you a ballot in person.

  • When you receive your Vote By Mail ballot, fill it out and either:

    • Mail it in with a postmark on or before September 15, 2026 or

    • Deliver it in person to the County Clerk’s Office by 3 p.m. September 14, 2026.

Mail-in ballots cannot be submitted at polling places.
