Children with Hope

In conjunction with our One School, One Book initiative, South End welcomed a special visitor on May 7th and May 8th—Hope the Therapy Dog!

Four year old Hope is a certified Therapy Dog with Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc., and the beloved pet of Dee Bastanza. Dee generously offered to bring Hope to our school to share in joyful reading experiences with our students.

As many of us know, the presence of a pet can lift our spirits. When a Therapy Dog joins a group, the effects are even more powerful—students often feel less stressed, more confident, and more engaged. Therapy Dogs like Hope provide comfort, promote positive social behaviors, boost self-esteem, and even inspire young readers to speak and read with enthusiasm.

During her visit, Hope spent time with each grade level. Dee introduced students to the important role of therapy dogs and children had the opportunity to ask questions and read a book to Hope.

Everyone wanted to take Hope home, and gave her lots of pets and hugs before she left us! We look forward to having Hope visit South End again.
