Third grade Library Media students are rocking around the world! Together, we read Maya Wei-Hass’s What a Rock Can Reveal:  Where They Come From and What They Tell Us About Our Planet. Through this, students learned about various rocks, crystals, and minerals, how they are formed, as well as how rocks are used in our everyday lives along with a snapshot of famous geological formations throughout the world. Now, students have been assigned a geological location of their own to research! Some of the assigned locations are the Chocolate Hills in the Philippines, Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland, the Rainbow Mountains in China, and Kilauea in Hawai’i. Currently, students are at the starting phase of their research, learning how to access sources and extract information relevant to their project through a planning sheet. They will present their findings through an informational and persuasive travel brochure when their research is complete.
