music dance

As students prepare for our Spring Concert in music class, Ms. Cacciottolo always makes time for some movement! Students learned a folk dance to the song “Irish Stew” in honor of St. Patrick’s Day!

The art studio under Mrs. Farrell’s direction has been in full art show mode finishing up our Hokusai-inspired pieces! There will be lots of Great Waves and Mount Fujis, and now students are adding in koi fish and cherry blossoms to bring everything together. It’s been really fun seeing how all of their work comes alive. Our art room is starting to feel like a trip to Japan. Some classes have also been exploring Wayne Thiebaud and his dessert paintings, which has been a big hit. Students have been trying out chalk pastel too, which has been equal parts fun and messy but the results have been so worth it. The kids have really been into experimenting with new materials and it’s been great to watch. Stay tuned for our masterpieces in May!

Mrs. Fitzpatrick’s second grade Library Media students are creating mushroom trading cards based on their research. Each student was assigned 3 mushrooms to investigate, including their habitats, where they are found throughout the world, if they are poisonous or not, and other fun facts. Students learned how to navigate Google Drive to find accessible resources for their research and how to use headings to find important information in nonfiction articles. Students are writing their facts on one side while on the other they include a colorful, hand-drawn picture. The students are excited to share what they’ve learned!

Mrs. Manning’s students are participating  in a cooperative learning/games unit. The focus of each lesson is cooperation, teamwork, sportsmanship, participation, and communication skills.  Students have been working together to find solutions to group/individual challenges
