Makey Makey

Third grade is finishing up this school year in Library Media by working with Makey Makeys, small circuit boards that connect to the computer to allow users to turn everyday objects into touchpads, replacing specific keys on the keyboard. Students reviewed the basics of how circuits work as well as what it means when we say that an object is conductive. To review these concepts, students used the Makey Makeys to play arcade games, making themselves part of the circuit in the process! Students troubleshooted throughout the activity, analyzing whether the error was on the hardware side (Am I touching the Earth bar?) or the software side (Did I press “play”?). Students were able to seek help from peers, enabling them to work on collaborating with others when working with technology.
