Summer Reading 2026
Dear North & South End Families,
I hope you and your children are looking forward to a fun and relaxing summer! To help students maintain their reading skills and avoid the “summer slide,” we are offering an optional Summer Reading Challenge for all students currently in grades K-4.
Here is a “summer reading board game” designed to guide students through 21 engaging reading activities over the course of the summer. These activities are meant to be enjoyable, flexible, and easy to fit into your family’s schedule. Students can complete the activities at their own pace and in any order. Also included at the end of this letter is a reading log to record the books they read. The goal is to keep students connected to reading in a way that feels fun and rewarding. As an added incentive, students who participate will be entered into a drawing to win a gift card to Sonny’s Frozen Desserts!
Students also have the option to take a photo of themselves completing one of the activities and send it in along with their reading log. Please note that these photos will be displayed in the school hallways at the start of the new school year to celebrate our readers!
Participation in this program is completely optional, but we strongly encourage all students to take part. Developing a regular reading habit over the summer helps students return to school confident and ready to learn.
Please return the completed reading log by Friday, September 11, 2026. The log can be printed out and returned to teachers or a scanned copy can be emailed directly to our School Library Media Specialist, Ms. Fitzpatrick, at fitzpatrick.lauren@cgscshools.org. We look forward to celebrating our readers’ efforts!
